Huatulco, Mexico

January - 2006

Report & Photos by Marianne Sawatzy

We flew directly to Huatulco from Winnipeg.  With a few short delays at the airport our Hotel bus was ready to transfer us to the Barceló hotel.

The 25 minute ride seems to take forever but at the Hotel they were waiting for us with beverages.  Our room was clean, comfortable bed and it had  balconies that overlook the pool area and ocean. The rooms had a well stocked mini fridge which was included in the all inclusive package.

The food was fantastic with 2 buffets restaurants and 2 a la carte restaurants that required reservations.  They had a large selection of food and a variety of desserts to end the meal, there was no shortage of food.  Signature organized 2 buffet suppers for the their guests which were delicious a outdoor BBQ and a Mexican meal.

The resort is located on the Tangolunda Bay and we enjoyed time and activities on the beach.

We enjoyed walks on the beach since parts of the beach were secluded.  Boogie Boards, snorkeling, kayaking and sailing were some of the recreational activities that we participated in.  They offer quite a few day excursions and we took in the Bays Tour which cost $45US.It included a cruise on a catamaran along the coast and we saw the numerous bays and secluded beaches of Huatulco.  Enjoy the swimming and snorkeling, music and the scrumptious food on the beach.

We took a taxi for $2.50US into the city of La Crucecita were we toured the local church and saw the beautiful painting on the ceiling of the church and spent some time shopping in the quaint shops.

The hotel staff was helpful and friendly and most of them spoke English or at least some.  The signature rep. went out of her way to help the guests with questions or problems.  There just a few vendors on the beach and we enjoyed the bartering with the vendors.  The hotel offered a variety of entertainment nightly which was a nice way to end the day.

We also had a chance to tour the Crown Pacific Deluxe suites which was across the street from the Barceló and is built on a hillside.  The Hotel was not on the beach but they had shuttle service to the beach where they had a restaurant and pool.  The Hotel has a beautiful view of the ocean and the pool at the hotel is located on an upper floor.  The Gala Resort was located next to the Barceló on the Beach also.  Very nice hotel, similar to the Barceló, 5 star rating.  We had just an excellent time and would recommend the Barceló in Huatulco if you are looking for relaxing vacation.  We would like to return one day.
