Yamon Jamaica!!!!

Jamaica 2006

Report & Photos by
Deborah Schroeder

Jamaica is located in the Caribbean just south of Cuba.

Before you go it would be good to know some of the common expressions:

For Example:
Soon come---Just wait a little bit longer (Jamaican time)

Yamon----yes and there is a bunch more.

After a short flight down to Montego Bay…….as the aircraft lowers you can see the entire reef in the ocean. What a beautiful view.

I spent 6 wonderful days in Jamaica and was able to explore a lot!

First, we went by bus from the airport in Montego Bay down to Ocho Rios. After getting stuck in the traffic due to an accident, we arrived to our hotel late in the evening - apparantly we were already on Jamaican time!

After enjoying our first Night sleep at the Sunset Jamaica Grande we were ready for some exploring.

Our highlight on the first day was the Dunn’s River Falls. They are awesome; you should not miss out on it!

One of the other highlights was the Rose Hall Great House.  We were able to listen to the spooky story. It was great!

Finally, on our last full day, we went to Negril and enjoyed the Sunset Cruise which took us from the beach all the way up to Rick's Café, were people were jumping of the cliff.

I would encourage everybody to visit Jamaica!

If you rent your own vehicle, be aware that driving in Jamaica is in the left side off the road. This can be disorienting at first so it’s a good idea to practice before heading out onto the highway.

Speed limits throughout the island and 50 m.p.h. on the open road and 30 m.p.h.in towns and villages. Mountainous terrain and narrow roads can combine to lengthen travel so allow more time that you would normally allocate for a given distance.
